What Can I Put In My Skip?
Want to hire a skip but not sure what you can and cannot put in there? Recycling waste is not always simple, and some materials and items are more difficult to dispose of than others due to various legislations, restrictions and hazardous properties. Whilst we are happy to take almost any type of waste, it is worth noting that some items/materials may carry an extra charge, and others may need their own skip altogether.
Wood
We accept almost all types of wood in our skips without additional charges, apart from railway sleepers, telegraph poles and other types of wood considered hazardous.
Cement and Hardcore
Any cement, concrete, stone, or brick rubble is welcome in our skips and is one of the simplest waste streams for us to recycle. We do ask, however, that you do not fill any skip larger than an 8 yard with predominantly hardcore waste as it may make the skip too heavy for the vehicle to lift or carry when collecting.
Tiles
Much like the hardcore mentioned above, tiles are more than welcome in our skips. However, tiles from older properties may contain asbestos, which cannot go in a normal skip due to being hazardous waste. If you are unsure, contact us first to arrange a sample test. The testing costs can be found at the bottom of this page.
Electrical cabling
Any old wires and cables can be put in your skip. This includes conduit, ducting and network cabling.
Metal
As mentioned above, we welcome all and any metal in our skips, with the exception of items containing mercury.
Glass
Whether it’s in or out of a frame, in one piece or smashed to smithereens, please feel free to put any glass in your mixed waste skip.
Kitchen Appliances
Ovens, cookers, microwaves, toasters, kettles…we will take it all. In fact, the only appliance in your kitchen that we would charge more for is your fridge/freezer as these are hazardous waste items.
Garden Appliances
Any lights or other electrical items are absolutely fine to go in our skip. However, if you have a lawnmower and/or pressure washer that uses petrol, they will need to be completely empty of any oil or fuel before going in the skip.
Other Household Goods
Any wooden, plastic, or wicker furniture will be accepted in our skips, as well as carpets, curtains, blinds, beds, flooring, and almost all other household items. Except for Upholstered items (POPs Waste) these are classed as Hazardous Waste, more information on this can be found in the section below “what cannot go in my skip”.
Garden Waste
Any sand, soil, stones, turf, roots, bushes, plants, and almost anything else you can find in your garden are absolutely fine to go in one of our general waste skips.
Bathroom Suites
All items in a bathroom can go in a general waste skip, just keep any plasterboard separate. Depending on the age of the bathroom suite, some toilet cisterns can be made of asbestos which is hazardous waste and not permitted in a general waste skip. If in doubt, please contact us.
Cardboard & Paper
All cardboard and paper are fine to go in the skip including packaging, film, shrink wrap, textiles and clothing, this is all recycled at our facility.
Plastic Waste
We accept all plastics including UPVC waste in our general waste skips.
Furniture
We accept all furniture waste except any upholstered items, these are now classed as POPs waste due to hazardous chemicals in the foam of upholstered seating, for more information visit our upholstered furniture point further down this page. If they are not upholstered, they are ok to go into our general waste skips.
Asbestos
We cannot accept ANY asbestos waste in our mixed waste skips, but we can offer a skip solely for asbestos waste. This is hazardous waste. If you are unsure if the material you have to dispose of contains asbestos, contact us to organise the testing of a small sample. The testing costs can be found at the bottom of this page.
Plasterboard
Plasterboard contains chemicals that react when it decomposes and releases toxic Sulphur Dioxide gas. We can provide a plasterboard-only skip, dumpy bag or rubble sack if you require one, but you cannot put any other material in them. If something is stuck to the plasterboard, like wood, insulation or tiles, they must be separated. Rubble sacks and dumpy bags of plasterboard can be placed on top of our skip as long as they are contained and will not contaminate the rest of the waste, this charge can be found at the bottom of this page. Additional charges will apply should plasterboard waste be mixed with any other wastes and these charges can be found at the bottom of this page.
Oils and Fuels (Liquid Waste)
We cannot accept any petrol, diesel, oil, or any other form of liquid or gaseous fuel, even in a sealed container or cylinder. This is hazardous waste. Please contact us where we can advise you on the best disposal route for this this waste.
Fridge Freezers (WEEE Waste)
Unfortunately, we cannot accept any refrigeration units, including air conditioning units, without an additional charge being taken first. These are classed as hazardous waste. These can be placed on top of the skip as long as they are contained and will not contaminate the rest of the waste, these charges can be found at the bottom of this page.
Televisions and Computer Monitors (WEEE Waste)
Any plasma, LED, LCD, or CRT screens require an additional charge before they can be placed in one of our skips. These are classed as hazardous waste. These can be placed on top of our skip as long as they are contained and will not contaminate the rest of the waste, these charges can be found at the bottom of this page.
Upholstered Furniture
Any old sofas, armchairs, office chairs, stools, futons, bean bags, sofa cushions, and any other upholstered furniture including leather, fabric or foam requires an additional charge due to fire-retardant chemicals used in their manufacture. The additional charge shown at the bottom of this page covers these items to be incinerated rather than recycled. For more information, please visit https://www.gov.uk/guidance/manage-waste-upholstered-domestic-seating-containing-pops
Japanese Knotweed
We cannot take any Japanese Knotweed in our skips, even when mixed with other garden waste. This is hazardous waste. Please contact us where we can advise you on the best disposal route for this waste.

Paint
Both water based or flammable paint is not permitted in a general waste skip, empty tins are fine, however paint is classed as hazardous waste so extra charges will apply. The tins can be placed on top of our skip as long as they are contained and will not contaminate the rest of the waste, these charges can be found at the bottom of this page.
Tyres
No tyres are permitted in our general waste skips, these can be placed on top of the skip for an additional charge as listed at the bottom of this page. Please contact us if you have multiple tyres to dispose of where we will be able to provide a quotation accordingly.
Mattress
One mattress is permitted in our general waste skips, additional charges will apply for any more as listed at the bottom of this page. Please contact us if you have multiple mattresses to dispose of where we will be able to provide a quotation accordingly.
Lithium-Ion and all Batteries
No batteries are permitted in our general waste skips, this is very important due to the number of fires in the waste industry these cause, they are also hazardous waste. These batteries can be placed on top of the skip in a sealed bag for an additional charge as listed at the bottom of this page.
All other Hazardous Waste
Anything labelled as hazardous, or containing pollutants deemed hazardous, cannot go in a normal skip. Including car batteries, aerosols, gas bottles, fire extinguishers and hydralime bags. Incidental items can be placed on top of our skip as long as it is fully contained and will not contaminate the rest of the waste, these charges can be found below.
